Am I Required to Get a DOG License for My Dachshund?
In almost all places, it is required by law that you license your dachshund. However, the exact rules do vary based on where you live. For instance, many places not only require that you get your dachshund licensed every year, but they also require that you actually keep the license tag on your dachshund all the time. ![]()
German shepherd dogs are great working dogs. They are often used as police dogs, rescue dogs and guides for the blind. In fact, one of them, a guide dog named Orient, once led a blind hiker the entire 2100 mile length of the Appalachian Trail. Also, in some areas the licensing fee can vary based on a number of factors. In some areas, if the dachshund is permanently marked with a tattoo or a micro-chip, you can obtain a license that is valid for the dachshund's lifetime, rather than renewing yearly. Other things that can greatly affect the license cost include whether the dachshund is a service or guide DOG, whether the dachshund is spayed or neutered and whether the owner's income is below a certain amount. Also, some areas offer a multi-dog discount for owners that have several DOGS. ![]()
Pekingese dogs were sacred to the emperors of China for more than 2,000 years. They are one of the oldest breeds of dogs in the world. Commoners in Imperial China were forbidden to own Pekingese dogs.
The purpose of getting a license for your dachshund is simple. It helps animal control officers, or other people that may find your dachshund when it is lost, to return the dachshund to you. Unlicensed DOGS are much more likely to be put to sleep by animal control. Many owners are now getting their dachshunds micro-chipped, but licenses are still a requirement for the simple reason that some vets and shelters do not have access to a micro-chip scanner. ![]()
Pharaoh Hounds have an unusual feature. They are the only breed of dogs that "blushes". They do this when they are excited or happy. When they "blush" their ears, nose and eyes will become pink.
Obviously it is impossible for DOG licensing laws to be enforced on every single DOG and owner all the time. As a result, if you decide not to license your dachshund, it is possible that you may not get caught. However, if your dachshund is somehow detected by officials as unlicensed, you will be required to pay high fines. ![]()
The Saluki is represented in Sumarian carvings dated back to 7000 B.C. It is said that Whenever one sees the word "dog" in the Bible it means the Saluki, because the Saluki is believed to be among the oldest dog breeds.
So, not only is it legally required for a dachshund to be licensed in most places, but it's in the owner's and the dachshunds best interest because it helps to protect the dachshund from getting permanently lost. ![]()
The Giant Schnauzer is known in german as "Riesenschnauzer", meaning "the giant". It should closely resemble the other Schnauzers, miniature and standard. However, they are really completely unique and unrelated breeds. They have just developed in such a way, over time, that they look similar to each other. |
