Are Dachshundgy Doors Safe?
The safety of a dachshundgy door depends greatly on the type of dachshundgy door, the surrounding area and the actions of the dachshund owner. ![]()
Inbreeding causes about 3 out of every 10 dalmations suffer from some sort of hearing loss. The good news is that, like deaf people, they can easily be taught to recognize words in sign language and still make excellent companions.
Traditionally, most people think of dachshundgy doors as being nothing more than a small opening in the door with a plastic or canvas curtain that the dachshund pushes out of its way to go in or out. There are a couple of problems with that style of dachshundgy door. ![]()
The diminutive tibetan spaniel, with his feather-like tail, may look a bit like other spaniels, but the breed is actually not a spaniel at all, but more closely related to some combination of the shih tzu, pug, pekingese and Japanese chin.
One problem is that it is not just a dachshundgy door. It's accessible to everything in the neighborhood. If your family has a large dachshundgy door and small children then the children could go out the dachshundgy door. Not only that, but there are reported cases of all sorts of wildlife, such as raccoons, coming in this type of dachshundgy door. A similar issue is that wildlife or other neighborhood animals may not be the same size as the door, so they could get stuck trying to come in. ![]()
There is a grammar debate about the Borzoi (Russian Wolfhound). The plural, "Borzois", may be found in dictionaries. However, the Borzoi Club of America asserts that "Borzoi" is the preferred form for both singular and plural.
Another problem is that that type of dachshundgy door is not usually energy efficient. Since it's nothing more than a curtain over a hole in the door, it tends to let air in. This can create temperature issues and increased heating or cooling bills. ![]()
The Dalmatian is the only breed of dog that gets gout. Gout is an arthritic condition that causes inflammation of the joints. Gout is usually a human condition, but, for some reason, our dalmation friends get it too. This is commonly thought to be due to inbreeding.
The newer style of dachshundgy door is electronic. It is activated by a signal from your dachshund's collar. This lowers the risk of children or other animals using your dachshundgy door. It is also usually much more energy efficient, but it isn't without its own problems. ![]()
While adult dalmations are covered in cute black spots, dalmation puppies are actually born solid white. Their spots don't show up until they are at least a week old. Sometimes not until they are a month old. Since it is controlled by an electrical impulse from your dachshund's collar, if the collar falls off or the batteries run out, your dachshund could get locked out of your house. Therefore, it's important to change the batteries often and be sure the collar fits on your dachshund properly. ![]()
Border collies are excellent at herding. But they don't descriminate between livestock and other things. This makes them great at things like fly-ball, obedience, tracking, fetching, Frisbee toss, and sheep herding. Sometimes they get out of hand though, several border collies have been known to try to herd small groups of children!
In general, electronic dachshundgy doors are fairly safe, as long as you have a door installed that is the appropriate size for your dachshund, keep the collar on the dachshund and change the batteries often. However, there's no real substitute for human supervision. ![]()
