One of the most important things a dachshund owner can do for their dachshund is to make sure that he or she has DOG tags attached to their collar. A DOG tag identifies your dachshund's name and address in the event that he gets lost and is vital accessory to finding your dachshund as quickly as possible.

Many Scottish terriers have an odd medical condition. It is called Scotties Cramp. It is a mild neurological disorder. Scotties under stress or exercising may move erratically, when suffering from this neurological disorder, but seem fine when resting.

A DOG tag comes in many different sizes, shapes and colors. They can be made in local Wal Mart and Target stores, as well as pet supply stores around the country for a very minimal cost. Sticking to traditional DOG tags is still the most common method of providing identification for dachshunds and will continue to be for quite some time.

St. bernards have a well-deserved reputation as rescue dogs. In fact, the most successful mountain rescue dog ever was a st. bernard. His name was Barry. He lived during the early 1800's, during which time he saved 40 lives.

Make sure that your DOG tags are kept up to date. If you move or change your phone number, make sure you replace the information on the tag to reflect the change. Sure, DOG collars and tags come off, but if you take the time to adequately size your dachshund, purchase the right size collar and make sure you crimp DOG tag attachments, chances are that your DOG tags will stay on for months. Periodically check to make sure that DOG collars fit snugly and have not stretched after use by becoming wet, and tug on the DOG tag occasionally to also make sure it's secure.

The Broholmer is a breed that is recognized only in Denmark. It was thought extinct in the 1960's but, in December of 1974, a purebred Broholmer popped up in Finland. This dog was a male, and the owners hoped to find a female for him to mate with, but it never happened. While still recognized as a breed, an example has yet to appear again.

No one likes to lose their dachshund, but by knowing that your dachshund is wearing a DOG tag with your dachshund's name, address and telephone number on it, chances of recovering your dachshund will dramatically increase.

Basset hounds have incredibly long ears. In fact, the dog with the largest ears in the world is a Basset Hound. His name is Mr. Jeffries. The dog's ears are 11.5 inches long, and are insured.

The Bloodhound doesn't need to smell blood to find someone who is lost. It is said that his name instead means blooded hound, or aristocratic. They actually track people because people leave a trail of skin cells with their own unique odor wherever they go.
