Do Those Invisible Fences Work with Dachshunds?

Invisible electric fences can work with some dachshunds. However, they are not a good substitute for an owner's supervision. There are several reasons for that.

The bichon frise breed is quite old. Originally they used to belong only to kings and queens. However, eventually they became known for their abilty to learn tricks and for their excellent sense of balance. As a result, they gained a reputation for being excellent as circus dogs.

First of all, most invisible fences work because they detect a signal from a special collar on the dachshund. If the collar falls off or the batteries in the collar die without the owner's knowledge then the dachshund can easily escape.

Basset hounds are fabulous at hunting and they make wonderful companion dogs. However, even with those great qualities, basset hounds are horrible swimmers! Their legs are simply too small to keep their heavy, long bodies afloat properly.

Another problem is that some dachshunds may see something outside the fence line that gets them overly excited, such as a small animal. The dachshund might break through the invisible fence line when they are in an extremely excited state and then, after the feeling wears off, they might not want to come back because of the invisible fence.

The springer spaniel breed is well-known for having very high energy levels. In fact, the "spring" in "springer spaniel" referred to this dog's ability to spring out at, or startle game. They are excellent hunting dogs.

Believe it or not, the most common problem with electric invisible fences is not trying to keep the individual dachshund in. The biggest problem is actually trying to keep other things out. Since the invisible fences work based on an electric impulse from one particular dachshund's collar, they do nothing to keep other neighborhood DOGS out of the yard. For that matter, they also don't prevent wildlife, such as raccoons or coyotes, from coming into your dachshund's environment either.

The phalne is essentially the same thing as a papillon, except that it has dropped spaniel-like ears. within the first couple of months after birth the ears will either lay flat or raise up permanently. The AKC considers the Phalne and the Papillon to be the same breed.

Some places don't allow standard fences, such as wood or chain link. In those instances, an invisible fence may be the only alternative. If your dachshund is going to be supervised in the yard then an invisible fence may be fine. However, there is no substitute for a standard fence when it comes to keeping other animals out. If you can have a standard fence then you should have one. That will protect not only your dachshund, but also the rest of the family.

The first living being to travel in space was a small mixed breed dog named Laika, who gave her life orbiting the earth in the Russian Sputnik in 1957. John F. Kennedy's terrier, Charlie, sired 4 puppies with Laika's daughter, Pushinka.
