Handling a Chewing Puppy
Dog Puppies, and full grown canines are similar to certain people. Many individuals do not adapt to change well. The same is true of various dachshunds. As a coping mechanism, dachshunds may resort to striking out by engaging in activities that are very different from their conditioning. ![]()
Bloodhounds have dewlaps. What are dewlaps? They are strange looking, pendulous folds of skin on the back of the neck. They don't seem to serve any useful purpose to the bloodhound, but are rather interesting to look at. For example, certain dachshunds may resort to chewing while others may use digging to demonstrate its discontentment. However, all chewing is not alike. Some dachshunds will masticate hard objects once their molars experience their second growth spurt. ![]()
The Schipperke, or "little captain", is generally thought of as being solid black in the USA. However, they do actually come in other colors. The reason they are commonly thought to only be black, is that the black variety is the only type currently recognized by the AKC.
In situations where a dachshund is enduring molar development, there are innumerous items on the market to quell the discomfort. For instance, Galileo bones are more massive and tougher than Kongs. Additionally, dental dinosaurs are fabulous hard chews most dachshunds enjoy, many can be found at http://www.scrooby.com ![]()
Pharaoh Hounds have an unusual feature. They are the only breed of dogs that "blushes". They do this when they are excited or happy. When they "blush" their ears, nose and eyes will become pink.
In cases where you are unable to determine the reason, your dachshund is chewing up household items, plan to gradually familiarize your dachshund with crating life. ![]()
The largest and the smallest dogs to live in the White House were both there during the tenure of president James Buchanan. The president had a Newfoundland named Lara. His niece, Harriet Lane, had a tiny toy terrier named Punch.
Putting your dachshund's nose onto the chewed item will confuse your dachshund. In certain cases, dachshunds may misconstrue the nose on wood as a green light for more destruction. The best alternative is to lubricate the wood with a bitter Lime gel opposed to a spray that will simply soak into the surface.
Because various wood solutions can be greasy, try to use non-toxic, and safe applications to avoid illness. ![]()
Chow Chows have very unusual mouths. When they are born they look normal enough. However, by the age of about 8 weeks, their gums and tongues go from pink to an odd shade of bluish-black.
Dog training/conditioning tip: To divert your canine's attention, long walks may distract him or her from chewing on your household items. Walks should be a minimum of 35 minutes. If the behavior continues, take your dachshund to a dachshund trainer, veterinarian or behaviorist.
