How To Stop My Dachshund from Fighting with Other DOGS

If you have a dachshund with some behavior or territorial issues, you may have your work cut out for you when it comes to teaching your dachshund to stop fighting with other DOGS. Keep in mind before you go any further, that in many cases, aggressive behavior in a dachshund is a result of fear.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the longest lived dog was an Australian Cattle Dog named Bluey. The dog lived to be 29. This case was considered unusual since smaller dogs generally live longer. The chihuahua is actually the breed that tends to live the longest.

Work with your dachshund, first on obedience basics, using commands such as sit, stay, heel, and 'no'. Don't punish your dachshund, though reinforce and reward good behavior. When that step has been accomplished, take your dachshund out for walks along quiet neighborhood streets where interaction with other people or DOGS isn't likely. Get your dachshund used to being around others, without them being too close.

Chow chows were originally bred as food, just like cows. However, in some cases, they were also used as hunters and helpers. They were also used to keep people warm under cold conditions by cuddling up to people with their soft, warm fur.

Carry DOG treats in your pocket to immediately reward your dachshund for good behavior and responding to your commands. When approaching other DOGS or people, place yourself between your dachshund and others. Grasp the leash tightly and pull the DOG leash sideways as the DOG approaches, keeping your dachshund at a distance. Pulling his or her leash sideways will keep your dachshund unbalanced, while allowing you greater control.

Carry something that will distract your dachshund when he or she sees another DOG approaching, but don't yell or scold your dachshund to behave before the other people even near you. Maintain an even pace, always talking to your dachshund in low, soothing tones, and urge him to respond to you instead of approaching DOGS or people. Reward him or her immediately with a treat when he makes eye contact with you.

When it comes to collies there is some debate about the smooth-coat collie. Some breed organizations consider the smooth-coat and rough-coat dogs to be variations of the same breed. Others consider them to be completely seperate.

Other people dealing with difficult situations like dachshund aggression often introduce their dachshund to a passive pooch in a new location. This will alleviate any need for territoriality with your dachshund, and the non-aggressive temperament of the other dachshund may serve to teach your dachshund that others dachshunds don't always imply a threat. Of course, have the other dachshund owner holding tightly to their dachshund and remain calm and unthreatening as well.

Many toy fox terriers used to be used commonly in circus shows by clowns. They are said to make great companions for owners with a good sense of humor. They seem to anticipate their master's every thought and mood.

Be aware of the first signs or signals of aggression in your dachshund toward others. Staring at an approaching DOG or person, hackles raised, and stiff legs and tail should alert you that your dachshund is in an aggressive mode. Calmly give the approaching DOGS or people plenty of room while speaking to your dachshund in upbeat and soothing tones, and then reward your dachshund after the brief meeting has passed.

Alaskan Malamutes are known for being friendly and loyal. In fact, Chewbacca, the hairy Wookiee in the Star Wars movies and the name of the character of indiana Jones were both inspired by George Lucas' loyal dog Indiana, an Alaskan Malamute.

The key to changing any behavior in a dachshund is patience. New lessons won't be learned overnight, and may take days, or even weeks, to see signs of progress. Reassure your dachshund that he or she is loved and make sure you lavish them with plenty of attention after each outing. However, if your dachshund continues to express aggressive behavior after all attempts by you to correct such behavior have failed, consider taking your dachshund to an obedience class that specializes in aggressive dachshund behavior.

Schipperke is Flemmish for "little captain" and the name is appropriate because most schipperkes seem to act almost human. they are happy, intelligent and usually enjoy being the center of the universe around them.

The name Pug is believed to have derived from this dog's resemblance to the pug monkey. That also fits the breed in other ways. Pugs tend to be curious and mischievous. They always seem to have a look of mischief and fun on their face, just like a monkey.

The tibetan terrier is not a true terrier and is probably more closely related to the lhasa apso. However, the tibetan terrier is indeed from Tibet, where monks once treasured this intelligent breed of dogs as guardians of their temples.

Most adult Borzoi (russian wolfhounds) are almost mute. They bark only very rarely. They are gentle, sensitive dogs with gracious house-manners and a natural respect for humans. Their quiet nature makes them an ideal pet for families with children.
