How to Crate Train Your Dachshund

Crate training is generally considered one of the fastest, and best, ways you can train your puppy to teach them not to go to the bathroom in the house. Crate training takes advantage of one of the strong instincts of your dachshund: that they will not go to the bathroom in their own personal space if it can be avoided. Having a crate for your puppy will then mean that it will hold when it wants to go to the bathroom. Pay attention to your puppy's behavior and when they get finicky, you can put your puppy on a leash and take it outside.

This is a good time to use positive reinforcement so your dachshund will learn that this is a good action. Dachshunds want to be part of the family, so even in a crate they will be much happier in a room full of people than off to the side when they can't see anyone. �After your dachshund is successfully housebroken, remove the door from the crate. Now your dachshund has its own private space and can come and go in the house as it pleases.

If you keep these tips in mind and put in the due diligence the first couple months to get your dachshund on the right track, you will not only have a well trained house pet, but will save yourself more time in training and re-training. Done effectively, crate training is the perfect way to train your pet to be a part of the family.
