How to Crate Train Your Dachshund
Crate training is generally considered one of the fastest, and best, ways you can train your puppy to teach them not to go to the bathroom in the house. Crate training takes advantage of one of the strong instincts of your dachshund: that they will not go to the bathroom in their own personal space if it can be avoided. Having a crate for your puppy will then mean that it will hold when it wants to go to the bathroom. Pay attention to your puppy's behavior and when they get finicky, you can put your puppy on a leash and take it outside. ![]()
Newfoundlands have webbed feet, just like ducks. They also have extremely water-proof fur. Those features, as well as their great strength, loyalty and willingness to learn, make newfies great candidates to work as water rescue dogs.
This is a good time to use positive reinforcement so your dachshund will learn that this is a good action.
Every time you take your puppy out to go to the bathroom, give a treat and praise every time your puppy does so. This will help reinforce that outside is the place to go to the bathroom. After that the dachshund can run freely in the house until it needs to go again, which for some really young puppies can be as often as every hour, but later as they age. Keep a close eye on your pet to let them out when they really need to go. ![]()
While adult dalmations are covered in cute black spots, dalmation puppies are actually born solid white. Their spots don't show up until they are at least a week old. Sometimes not until they are a month old.
There are several factors you need to keep in mind while crate training your dachshund:
Only use the crate when you are going to be home for the entire time of confinement. Dachshunds are social creatures, and you should never have them in a closed crate more than two hours, or while you're away from home--even if it's only for a short time.
Don't put the crate away from everyone. Dachshunds want to be part of the family, so even in a crate they will be much happier in a room full of people than off to the side when they can't see anyone.
After your dachshund is successfully housebroken, remove the door from the crate. Now your dachshund has its own private space and can come and go in the house as it pleases. ![]()
Labrador retrievers, as their name indicates, were bred to retrieve things. However, most people think of them today as retrieving sticks, or other similar objects. In reality, they were originally bred to help fishermen by retrieving fishing nets!
If you keep these tips in mind and put in the due diligence the first couple months to get your dachshund on the right track, you will not only have a well trained house pet, but will save yourself more time in training and re-training.
Done effectively, crate training is the perfect way to train your pet to be a part of the family. ![]()
The Podengo, a rare breed of dog, is also known as the Portuguese Warren Hound. It is usually a fawn or yellow color, but can be brown, black or sooty colored without white patches or spots. It resembled a long-bodied chihuahua.
