How to Find a Good Dachshund Trainer

Since there is no set list of educational or licensing requirements to be a dachshund trainer, finding a good one is that much more difficult for you, the dachshund owner. It is important for you to research the subject thoroughly before choosing a trainer for your dachshund.

Barbara Bush wrote "Millie's Book", a book about her English Springer Spaniel, Millie. The book was an instant success. It was on the bestseller list for 29 weeks. Millie was the most popular "First Dog" in United States history.

To begin with, use all of your resources, whether it's friends with well-trained dachshunds, your dachshund's veterinarian, dachshund magazines or the internet. The more sources of information you have, the better off you'll be.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the smallest dog on record was a yorkshire terrier in Great Britain who, at the age of 2, weighed just 4 ounces. However, the chihuahua is generally the smallest breed of dog.

Once you've compiled a list of possible dachshund trainers, the next step is to contact them to set up interviews. If possible, bring your dachshund to the interviews with you. You want the interview to be a question and answer session, not your dachshund's first training lesson, but having your dachshund at the interview can give you a feel for how your dachshund and trainer will get along together.

The official record for the heaviest dog was set way back in 1989. The dog in question was an English mastiff named Zorba. At the time, he weighed 343 pounds. He was 8 years old when he was weighed.

During the interviews, don't be afraid to ask questions. Ask the potential trainers about their training methods, how they deal with problems such as dachshund aggression, how long they've been training dachshunds and anything else that you feel the need to ask. Be sure to pay attention to not only their answers, but also their body language and the tone of their voices. After all, it's just as important that your dachshund's trainer get along with you as it is that they get along with your dachshund.

The Lundehund is a breed which has lived solely on two islands in the north of Norway. The Lundehund has sever extra toes and paw cushions! That makes it excellent as a climbing dog, bred for rugged terrain. It also has the unusual ability to close its ears.

If possible, try to observe a training session with another dachshund or ask if you can talk to a previous customer of each potential trainer. What you may expect and what actually takes place during a training session may be two completely different things. This added insight will help you to make an accurate final decision.

Yorkshire terriers are very tenacious. In fact, A 12-pound Yorkshire Terrier named Oliver once defended an elderly woman from an 80-pound Akita. The woman escaped to safety and Oliver the yorkie survived with only nine stitches.

In short, finding a good dachshund trainer depends on many things. There is no clear right or wrong answer. If you do your research and follow your instincts you should find a great trainer to suit your needs. However, even after you've chosen a trainer, don't be afraid to ask about things that you don't understand, question techniques or ask for a second opinion. You and your dachshund will be glad that you did.

The first living being to travel in space was a small mixed breed dog named Laika, who gave her life orbiting the earth in the Russian Sputnik in 1957. John F. Kennedy's terrier, Charlie, sired 4 puppies with Laika's daughter, Pushinka.
