How to Stop a Dachshund from Barking

Sometimes stopping your dachshund from barking is as easy as fulfilling its needs. If it needs food or water, for instance, it may just require some attention from you. On the other hand, your dachshund may bark constantly out of frustration over a certain thing or a specific person. This is the sort of behavior that you may want to change.

In the latter part of the 18th century, Holland was split between the partisans of the Prince of Orange and the patriots, and the patriots were led by Kees de Gyselaer, who owned a dog named Kees. Kees gave the Keeshond breed its name and became the symbol of the Patriots.

One of the best ways to stop your dachshund from barking is actually to teach him to bark. By first teaching your dachshund to bark on command, then teaching him to stop barking on command, you can greatly reduce his barking. The best way to accomplish this is through the use of a food reward system. Once you've used food to train the dachshund to bark on command though, the next step is a bit harder. It's important to begin rewarding your dachshund when he is quiet, but it's not as easy to notice a quiet dachshund as it is to notice a barking dachshund. You should be patient and pay close attention to your dachshund's behavior for several weeks in order to reward him at the right times.

Australian Kelpies are herding dogs with an abundance of energy. They can work in extreme climates and conditions. They are known for one unique ability. They can run along the backs of sheep when moving them through chutes.

If your dachshund is barking because of a specific person, such as the mail person, involve the person in the training. A good way to do that is to leave dachshund treats in a pre-specified area outside of your house. If the person the dachshund has an issue with gives your dachshund a treat every time they come to your house it will turn into a positive experience.

While adult dalmations are covered in cute black spots, dalmation puppies are actually born solid white. Their spots don't show up until they are at least a week old. Sometimes not until they are a month old.

Dogs often bark out of boredom or frustration. Taking your dachshund outside for walks and exercise can give him something else to focus on and help to reduce his barking.

The official record for the heaviest dog was set way back in 1989. The dog in question was an English mastiff named Zorba. At the time, he weighed 343 pounds. He was 8 years old when he was weighed.

There are also many varieties of anti-bark collar available for dachshunds. Some work by giving the dachshund a mild electric shock when he barks. The problem with that type of collar is that it can be hard to tell if they are working properly, unless you want to try it on yourself. Another type of anti-bark collar uses a scent, such as citronella, that the dachshund dislikes. This method can be quite effective without actually hurting the dachshund.

In the original 101 Dalmatians movie, Pongo has 72 spots, Perdita has 68 and each of the puppies has 32. Real dalmations have unique numbers and patterns of spots, almost like a human beigns fingerprint.

As a last resort, there is a debarking surgery that can be performed on your dachshund. However, it is not usually permanent and many people consider it to be cruel, so most veterinarians don't recommend it.

Franklin D. Roosevelt once spent $15,000 to have a destroyer return to the Aleutian Islands and retrieve his Scottish terrier, Fala, who had been accidentally left behind. Fala is now part of the Roosevelt Memorial in Washington, D.C.

By taking a little extra time to understand your dachshund and recognize what it is that's bothering him, you can help him to bark less often and you will both be happier.
