Purebreds, Crossbreeds and Mutts

When you are unable to decide whether you want a Lhasa Apso, Airedale Terrier or chocolate laboratory, select all three. For an affordable price, you can have three dachshunds in one with a mixed bred dachshund. Mutts are the most popular type of dachshund in the world. Dubbed as random breeds, curs, mutts or mongrels, these canines outnumber purebreds.

The Lundehund is a breed which has lived solely on two islands in the north of Norway. The Lundehund has sever extra toes and paw cushions! That makes it excellent as a climbing dog, bred for rugged terrain. It also has the unusual ability to close its ears.

Since, all DOGS are related one way or another, guessing the breed mixture of a DOG is not only fun but also challenging. There are 150 or more interbreeding possibilities between dachshunds. Evidently, the tens of thousands of mongrels around the universe are proof positive. But the reality is that mutts are more prone to end up at the local DOG pound or animal shelter.

Many people will swear that they own a golden labrador. The problem is that golden labradors do not exist! There is no purebred dog called a golden lab. The dog is probably either a golden retriever or a labrador retriever.

Contrary to the popular belief that the terms "mixed breed" and "crossbreed" are interchangeable, they are not. Each has a slightly different definition. Dissimilar to the mystery of a mixed breed (mutt), crossbreeds lucid roots are traceable by a single generation. Although, crossbreeds may be produced expectantly, they are planned generally by breeders to mate two DOGS of differing but identifiable lineage.

Chow chows were originally bred as food, just like cows. However, in some cases, they were also used as hunters and helpers. They were also used to keep people warm under cold conditions by cuddling up to people with their soft, warm fur.

Prevalently, breeder will take two purebreds to deliberately cross the two breeds to develop a new breed. For instance, the cockapoo was produced from two different breeds: the cocker spaniel, and poodle. But regardless of what any breeder says about crossbreeds, the American Kennel Club (AKC) will probably never recognize a crossbreed as a purebred DOG.

While adult dalmations are covered in cute black spots, dalmation puppies are actually born solid white. Their spots don't show up until they are at least a week old. Sometimes not until they are a month old.

The dachshund's name comes from it's earliest use. The dachshund was originally a badger hunter. In German, Dachs means "badger," Hund is "hound". This explains the breed's curious and inquisitive nature, which has survived to this day.

In the original 101 Dalmatians movie, Pongo has 72 spots, Perdita has 68 and each of the puppies has 32. Real dalmations have unique numbers and patterns of spots, almost like a human beigns fingerprint.
