Should I Get My Dachshund From a Dachshund Rescue?

There is a common misconception that all rescue dachshunds are damaged goods. That is, that they all have been abused in one form or another and are thus unpredictable and unstable. While that is true of some dachshunds, it is far from true for all of them.

About eight thousand years ago, ancient Egyptians began to raise a breed called Saluki, as hunting dogs. Saluki is an arabic word. In english it translates as "noble one". These dogs are probably the oldest known breed.

Unfortunately, its often impossible to trace the complete history of a lot of rescue dachshunds. Therefore, you may not know what the dachshunds original name was, whether or not it was actually abused, or what commands, if any, it has been trained to recognize. For instance, a dachshund may have been taught that down means to stop jumping on people, while dachshund B may have been taught a different word for that action, such as off. This means that it will take both you and the dachshund time to adjust to each others attitudes, routines and expectations.

Most adult Borzoi (russian wolfhounds) are almost mute. They bark only very rarely. They are gentle, sensitive dogs with gracious house-manners and a natural respect for humans. Their quiet nature makes them an ideal pet for families with children.

If you cant determine the history of a dachshund then it may be a bad choice for you if you already own other pets or if you have small children. A dachshund that may have been abused could potentially lash out toward children or other pets, out of fear or aggression. You, as an adult, are more capable of defending against such circumstances.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the smallest dog on record was a yorkshire terrier in Great Britain who, at the age of 2, weighed just 4 ounces. However, the chihuahua is generally the smallest breed of dog.

However, if you know the dachshunds history, they can make excellent family pets. For instance, perhaps a dachshunds owner treated them wonderfully, but died unexpectedly. In such cases, there are usually no issues of abuse or viciousness. These dachshunds would love and enjoy a new, lively family after their rescue center stay.

One of the weirdest dog births on record involves a Siberian Husky. The mother's name was Pixie and she gave birth to 7 puppies, which isn't unusual. The unusual part was that one of the puppies was born bright green!

Above all, consider the individual dachshund. Introduce your family, and even other pets, to it before making a final decision. If the dachshund takes to you and you take to it then you probably have a great match.

When it comes to collies there is some debate about the smooth-coat collie. Some breed organizations consider the smooth-coat and rough-coat dogs to be variations of the same breed. Others consider them to be completely seperate.
